Cheap electric heaters
In the United States, you will need to be well equipped for the winter, so that you and your family can be kept warm and comfy. Yet nowadays, people go for the money saving route, trying to save whenever and wherever they can. When electric heaters are a must have for winter in every home, there are still ways to get cheap electric heaters that can save you a great deal, and serve you well at the same time.
How do you define ‘cheap’?
Literally, cheap electric heaters may mean electric heaters with the lowest possible price tag. However, a low price tag does not necessarily reflect the quality of the product. There are dirt cheap ones available in the market, yet they may be made from inferior material, and may break down after a few times of use. Some of the inferior ones are not energy efficient, and waste a lot of energy throughout their usage.
Hence, a better way to define cheap electric heaters are those who do not cost you too much (not high-end ones), and are worth their price, delivering satisfaction in their performance.
What to look for in cheap electric heaters?
Despite the price, there are many more things that you should not overlook. These factors will strongly influence the worth-whileness of the electric heater in question.
- Portability – Unlike central heating, cheap electric heaters can deliver heat where and when you want it. You can place them anywhere in your home, and can even bring them with you, as you move from room to room. Hence, portability is important, so that you do not have to purchase multiple heaters for each room.
- Method of delivering heat – There are basically two types of heaters, namely convective, which heats and circulate warm air using a fan; and radiant, which heats smaller areas directly via infrared energy. The cheaper alternative will be radiant heaters, but less effective if you want to heat up a large space.
- Temperature controls – Cheap electric heaters that are good should feature a thermostat, which allows you to adjust the temperature and prevents the appliance from over-heating. This helps in saving electricity as well as reduces the risk of fire.
- Energy efficiency of the electric heater – All cheap electric heaters available can convert electricity into heat, yet only a portion of them are maximally efficient in this process. Good ones have high energy efficiency, and make the most out of your electricity input. So, they will cost you less in terms of your electricity bill.
- Safety features – Make sure that the cheap electric heater you purchase has the critical safety features in it. It should be certified by UL, have a tilt switch to shut the heating element in cases of the unit toppling over, and the heating element should be shielded to avoid direct contact.
It is easy to find cheap electric heaters within your budget, starting from $25 to $45, however, before purchasing any, do find out about how efficient they are, how safe they are, and how long lasting they will be. It’s no use getting the cheapest one only to find that it does not deliver good performance. That way, you will have to spend more to get a new, better one. So, when bargain hunting, do not be penny wise, pound foolish.
