Swimming Pool Electric Heaters
Good swimming pool electric heaters are worthy investments as they are an affordable means to heat your swimming pool. They help keep the water at a comfortable temperature at all times, even if you decide to go for a dip during chilly weather. They are durable as well and have a long shelf life, provided there is proper maintenance. Using electric heaters to heat your swimming pool is the better alternative when solar power and natural gas and oil are not readily available.
Electric Air-Sourced Heat Pumps
The electric air-sourced heat pump is a common type of swimming pool electric heaters. As its name suggests, its function is aided by warm air sourced from outside. However, the heat pump works primarily on its own. It operates on the same principle as an air-conditioner, although the process is reversed. Instead of using outside air for cooling purposes, it extracts and absorbs heat from surrounding warm air using a compressor.
The absorbed heat is then transferred to pool water passing through the heat pump. As it uses warm air to heat swimming pools, the amount of electricity used is minimal, making the electric air-sourced heat pump cost-efficient.
However, its efficiency actually depends on humidity and weather conditions. The warmer the weather is, the more heat there is for the compressor to extract and channel to the water. Most manufacturers will usually look to the climatic conditions of the area they work in to set the heat pump's efficiency amount. The normal efficiency rate is typically between 300% and 600%. It is because of these advantages that attract most people to use electric air-sourced heat pumps for their therapy and athletic training sessions.
Industry experts typically use the Coefficient of Performance to determine the efficiency of a heat pump. It is the ratio of the amount of heating provided to the energy consumed. The electric air-sourced heat pump is rated at around 5:1. It is the most efficient in terms of cost among other swimming pool electric heaters for heating all-year round.
You can say that the swimming pool electric heaters is a form of solar heater as well because it uses air warmed by the sun. It can last for up to 5 to 10 years if well-maintained. However, it will need periodic service by a technician as it is after all, a mechanical device which involves a lot of moving and electrical parts. When it comes to choosing this type of swimming pool heaters, size matters a lot. The larger your swimming pool is, the bigger the heat pump needed to ensure higher efficiency in warming your swimming pool.
The Electric Element
Another common type of swimming pool electric heaters are equipped with an electric element similar to an electric kettle. Although they have a low purchasing cost, their operating costs are higher if compared to the electric air-sourced heat pump. They are smaller in size, making them ideal for installation in limited spaces. They are also practical for when there is an unavailability in gas supplies to meet the special installation needs of heat pumps. They are much easier to install and have a more direct transfer of heat from the immersed element to swimming pool water.
