- Electric Heaters FAQ
Radiant electric heaters
Radiant electric heaters are a type of electric heater that utilizes infrared technology to generate heat. As compared to convection heaters, radiant electric heaters are unable to heat up a room quickly. However, they are effective in heating up an individual or object within minutes. Radiant electric heaters does not move hot air around the room, thus the humidity level in the room his higher and the draft in the room is much lesser as compared to an electric fan heater.
Types of radiant heaters
Infrared
Infra-red heaters are the cleanest heating devices in the world. They do not need to take in anything from the air to heat it up and they emit nothing into the air as well. The infrared rays move through the air without heating it up, when the infrared rays meet any surface it is turned into heat. Due to this focused heating, there is less energy wastage. They are best used when other forms of heating such as oil and gas are unavailable or impractical.
Ceramic
The unique feature of ceramic radiant heaters is their low operating temperatures. Heat produced by ceramic radiant heaters is below the ignition level of paper made products. Therefore, it is the safest radiant heater in the market and suitable for homes who have young children. However, its low temperature makes it inappropriate for heating large rooms.
Quartz
Halogen Light style radiant heaters are also known as reflective style heater utilizes an energy conserving halogen bulb to reflect heat. Heat reflection unto any surface or individual feels similar to a warm sunshine.
Advantages of Radiant Electric Heaters
Radiant heaters are a popular choice because the radiant heat produced is comfortable. Besides that, the radiant electrical heater is also economical and convenient. Moreover, radiant heat is not hazardous to health unlike propane or kerosene heaters. They are so safe that even architects and developers opt to install radiant electric heaters in new homes and buildings. Radiant electric heaters are the first choice for old folks home, child care centers, and the hospital.
In addition to that, studies have shown that radiant electric heaters consume 40% less electricity as compared to convection electric heaters. Furthermore, it is cleaner than other gas heating systems, quieter than a fan electric heater and does not emit any odors. These benefits make it suitable for those with allergies or sensitive noses.
Another bonus of using radiant electric heaters is that there are no needs for pipes, ducts, furnaces, or chimney. This means that no thorough maintenance is required to operate a radiant heater. The absence of coils also reduces the risk of fire incidents.
Radiant electric heaters are best used in smaller rooms or for spot heating. They are portable and lightweight so that you can place it where ever you please. Radiant electric heaters can also be used outdoors on the patio. It is also a good choice for small work places like a workshop or garage as long as there is room to safely place the heater.
